About Us
Last Cast Guiding is owned and operated by Pat Ahern, who has lived and fished in
BC his entire life. Pat is actively involved in the BC Sport Fishing Community, and
has been a dedicated volunteer on many salmon and steelhead conservation
initiatives.
Our guides are professional fishermen with many years of local fishing knowledge
and expertise. We constantly experiment with the latest techniques in order to
maximize our success when fishing for you. Our guides are committed to providing
the best customer service quality to ensure your fishing trip is enjoyable.
We believe in sharing our local knowledge of fishing Vancouver Island for salmon
and halibut with our clients. In doing so, we hope you can apply what you learn if you
return with your own boat. We also only use top quality tackle featuring Islander
precision reels and Lamiglas graphite rods.
Our primary concern is for your safety and enjoyment. We are fully insured and our
vessel complies with all Coast Guard safety regulations. While salmon & halibut
fishing conditions change day to day, we will always do our best to report accurately
on catch success and expected conditions. We will always keep safe operation of
our vessel and your comfort as the principle factor in decisions around choice of
fishing location.
If the fishing is slow, we would rather tell you before you book your trip - that way your
decisions are based on accurate, honest advice.
If we are booked when you call, we will do our best to arrange another Charter with
our many associates.
We are also knowledgeable in local wildlife and can take you on some interesting
sightseeing and wildlife tours of the Broken Islands.
How To Find Our Marina
Our home port is Clutesi Haven Marina in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island BC. In most
situations we will arrange to meet you at a prearranged time at the entrance gate to
the Marina. We are approximately a one hour drive from Nanaimo.
If you are travelling to Port Alberni from the BC Ferries Terminal in Nanaimo, drive
north on Highway 19 to the Qualicum Beach exit. At this exit follow the signs directing
you to Port Alberni and Pacific Rim Park on Highway #4. This paved 2 lane highway,
and the trip will take approximately 30 minutes from the Qualicum exit.
As you enter into Port Alberni you have 2 route choices. Please take the right fork in
the road, which leads to Ucluelet and the Pacific Rim National Park. The road you
are now on passes 2 shopping malls and a McDonalds. This road is called
Johnson Road, and you will take this road all the way into Port Alberni until you reach
the Somas River. Turn right on River Road, and cross a small bridge, and as you
cross the bridge the marina is located to your immediate left.
Turn left at the Marina, and parking is located next to the Marina Office and Boat
Launch. The entrance gate to the Marina is located behind the Marina Office (just
down river from the boat launch).
